Advice from Old-Queenslander to New Migrant in 1990

Story from life...

A new migrant arrived with a small family to Brisbane, Australia in March 1990. Within the first month, while trying to find job and place to rent, the head of the family met an old man whose ancestors arrived on the youngest continent around 170 years ago. . Two pieces of advice the old man offered to the new migrant, with complete honesty and friendship:

1. Avoid long-term dependency on the borrowings from the bank as soon
as you can afford. Drive your destiny by living within your means.

2. When asked about difference between two major political parties
in Australia, the old Queenslander replied:

"Names of both parties start with letter "L" and one name
is longer than the other."
